ABOUT CATHERINE
Catherine Allen, E-RYT, has been teaching since 2001 and is devoted to learning and sharing the gifts of yoga with others. Catherine believes that the physical, emotional, and spiritual healing that yoga brings can help pave your path to self-mastery both on and off the mat. Her yoga training background includes Bikram, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Pralaya, and Forrest. Her most influential teachers include Ana Forrest, Robert Boustany, Monti Mayrend, and Dharmavirsingh Mahida, with whom she studied intensively in India. Catherine is Teacher Liaison for the Forrest Yoga teachers community worldwide and is honored to be a Mentor Teacher and Guardian of the Forrest Yoga Legacy. She serves as Ana Forrest's Lead Assistant and as part of the teacher trainer team at Forrest Yoga teacher training courses nationally. In addition, Catherine continues to learn advanced yoga studies from her beloved animal companions - two cats and one dog.
Catherine's classes are slowly to moderately paced and lively. Everyone will be challenged in a safe and nurturing environment. Each class is designed to help you sweat out and strip away stubborn layers of stress that stiffen your mind and body. The combination of strength, flexibility, and breath power you develop through yoga will help you to evolve both on and off the mat. You will play with the edges of your breath and body, make new discoveries about yourself, and leave class feeling completely cleansed and rejuvenated!
TESTIMONIALS
- The private lessons I took with Catherine in Boston for more than a year transformed my body and my way of looking at the world. She is a brilliant teacher – knowledgeable, disciplined, creative, and kind-hearted. She consistently pushed me to my edge, while keeping a close eye on my physical limitations. I continue to use the suite of modifications she taught me for my knees and lower back. And, on and off the mat, I remember how important it is to breathe.
-Lorlene Hoyt - Catherine is remarkable! She is an inspired and motivated teacher whose class has given me a newfound confidence in my body's potential for moving in new ways and for growing in strength and flexibility. Her class is a journey, a goal, a process, a project, an opportunity. She truly has a gift.
-PDW - Catherine is excellent. Can't be said more clearly. I learned from Catherine a strong foundation in yoga that I've brought with me in all the classes I've taken, in all different styles. She's focused, sensitive and gives great personal attention with a simplicity that makes for utter clarity...She's fantastic, I miss her terribly and wish she had never left Boston. Lucky you if she's teaching in your town.
-Jason Slavick - Thanks to Catherine, my overall physical condition has improved dramatically. Since starting her classes I bend lower, stretch further, balance better, and stand taller. Best of all, I truly enjoy Catherine’s yoga exercises. I find them extremely soothing, mentally as well as physically stimulating. Catherine has a thorough knowledge of yoga and its underlying physiology. She has a wonderful, people-oriented teaching style coupled with a soothing demeanor and calming personality. Her yoga class has become the focal point of my weekly exercise routine. I will do anything to avoid missing it. I cannot praise Catherine, her teaching style, or her class highly enough.
-Gary K. Wolf, Creator of Roger Rabbit - Catherine is a patient and thoughtful teacher, precisely what is necessary to guide students to push themselves beyond what they think they can do. Even as a 50+ year old, I have become stronger and more flexible in the four years that I have studied with Catherine. She is always right there with modifications but, maybe more importantly, with the experience to tell you when you really can try the pose unmodified or hold the pose longer. In a world of yoga teachers with pretzel bodies and second-grade teacher voices, her calm encouragement lets you know that you can trust her judgment about what your body can do, not hers.
-Nanette - Catherine teaches with unmatched clarity and precision. The numbers at her classes not only break records at our health club, but also include a previously untapped population of jocks and lifters. Her language is concise, her assists spot-on, and as her warmth and humor reveal themselves, one feels the presence of greatness. She soothes and challenges, and is utterly sincere.
-Stephen Green - I started yoga because for the last 4-5 years I have suffered from tremendously horrible headaches and have been through every medication and treatment imaginable. Since starting yoga practice I have been feeling better and I believe a lot of that has been directly related to the way you teach.
-Jill - Catherine taught me that yoga is not just what you practice on the mat, but off the mat as well and that how you treat yourself on the mat is a good indication of how you treat yourself off the mat. With her help, I have become much more focused on my breathing (off the mat) and being in the present.
-SP - Catherine provides the best coaching in class I've ever received. She makes everything seem clear and achievable as she guides you into a pose and before you know it she's pushing you past your 'wall' - mental or physical. It's one of the more athletic yoga classes I've taken and I gained strength quickly. I love how Catherine always brings something new to each class - 'Have I done this with you?' So there is always discovery and new accomplishments mixed in with improving the core postures. She helped me to grow in my yoga practice as she gently fine-tuned my form and concentration. Her form is inspiring - relaxed yet impressive - and she obviously cares deeply about her students and her desire to share yoga.
